Stop hoarding your earthly treasures, donate them to feed those in need.

Blog

Calling All Angels Thrift Shoppe is a non-denominational outreach. The proceeds from the shop go to buy food for local food pantries, help out individuals and families in need, send clothing to haiti, forward donate usable items that we cannot use in the shop and work to make life easier in general. As Mark says, "Do not store up your treasures on this earth," donate them to help feed people in need.

Prom is upon us

Come on out to check out the lovely prom gowns here at Calling All Angels Thrift Shoppe. And they are available for prices so reasonable, its surprising they are still here. (Just kidding, we just got most of them in.

But seriously, the prices here are low because we know how difficult times are, and we know people still need things.

We are here to help. Plus, all the proceeds go to buying food for the local food pantries. How great is that. You get things you need, they get things they need.

Our dual purpose policy

Posted by Administrator on February 9, 2012 at 2:30 PM Comments comments (0)

As you all know, this shop is an outreach to help feed those in need in our community. All the people who have put HOURS and hours of hard work, are all volunteer. None of them takes a cent for all their efforts. Because they know that the money we make goes to buying food to feed our neighbors in need.

On this topic, we have a dual purpose policy here. We want to make all the money we can so that those in our community can eat. But we also know how hard times are for people. So we want to keep our prices as low as possible. If people can get what they need for decent prices and we can get what we need to help others, then this is a double blessing.

Yet there are times we get such wonderful donations that we know we can they make more money to buy food for the food pantry. We have other outlets for these items. Consignment shops are great. And they work with us for no commissions. It is their way to help support our cause.

Angels are everywhere and we are so blessed.

As always, we want to thank all those who volunteer their precious time, those who donate so generously, patrons who come back time and again - and tell others about us -  and those who work with us to make Calling All Angels Thrift Shoppe as successful as we have been.

The families of those in need - your neighbors and friends and co-workers who would never ask for your help - benefit from your generosity and concern. They would thank you as well.

God bless and have a wonderful day.

Expansion delayed

Posted by Administrator on January 31, 2012 at 12:35 AM Comments comments (0)

It was pretty sad for us, but you God seems to have other plans right now.

Our expnasion has been delayed. It seems the space was not yet ready for us. There is water moisture and damage in the new room. And it is going to cost so much money that the landlord is not able to do repairs yet.

So we are moving (an exhaustive effort) back into the one room. It will be pretty crowded for a little while.

But once more, the efforts of all my Angels who voluteer are making quick work of it.

Thank you Tony, Jenn, Lorena, Bob and Ashley! You all have done such a spectacular job at making the move for us. Your long hours and hard work are extremely appreciated. You are ALL the best.

As usual, we still need lots of help - donators, volunteers and patrons - to keep our progress positive. Remember, we are here to help those in our community in need. And anyone who can donate time or materials to help our landlord out will help us in the long run.

Averaging about $250 in food donations each week, we are able to help some 150 families in our community have nutricious meals.

We Expanded!!

It has been a wonderful, crazy, dizzying month since we opened on December 12th of last year. All my Angels - volunteers, donaters, shoppers - have all come through so wonderfully!

And now we have even more exciting news!

We have been able to expand, thanks to those who have come to support us and to our gracious landlord! We now have another level downstairs, about the same size as upstairs.

And our volunteer crew worked dozens of hours this past weekend to make this expansion happen. They are just . . . well, wonderful!

Upstairs looks so bright and open . . . very shoppable!

And downstairs has so much great deals!

We are indeed blessed! The more we can do here, the more we can help in our community!

Thank you all! And come on out to see the new shop! We can't wait to show it off to you!

Thank you, my Angels!

A HUGE thank you goes out to my children (Ashley, Andrew, Nicole), my beloved Jerry, to Lorena, Bob, Jen, Peggy, Kathleen, Kathy, Donna, Debra, Michael and all my other Angels who have volunteered to help stock, clean, move, pack and all the usual things that make a shop run.

We are starting to get help on a regular basis, which is great. All my very special Angels have been such wonderful help and almost make me cry everytime I think of all they have done for nothing more than a thank you and a hug.

But we do still need regular volunteers to give and hour or a few hours or a day, whatever they can, in order to make sure we have coverage during the hours we are open (monday through Saturday, 10AM to 5PM).

If anyone can help, then call (570-228-8351) or stop by and see us here at 611 Broad St (along East John Street) in Milford, PA, and let us know.

But even if you can't volunteer, you can still stop by . . . and spread the word. The more we do here, the more food we can buy for the local food pantries.

Did you know that a recent article (and in my conversations with Jennifer Carter of the Ecumenical Food Pantry), that the pantries are RUNNING OUT OF FOOD?? Can you believe that? The richest country in the world and we have people who cannot eat. It is enough to make a person cry. (Yes, I do that a lot.) But it is really sad. So anything we can do to help our neighbors in need, we should.

Okay, I am rambling. But I just wanted to make sure that ALL my special Angels know how much I apprerciate them. THANK YOU all who have helped make Calling All Angels Thrift Shoppe such a success, and in turn have helped feed many in need.

Buying Food

Posted by Administrator on December 24, 2011 at 1:35 PM Comments comments (0)

We went out and bought nearly $800 of food for the local food pantry. It was both a fun and emotional time. Not only were we excited by the fact that, with your help, we were able to bring such a large amount of food in a time of desparate need, but it was a sobering time as well. As we bought the several dozen jars of peanut butter and dozens of jellies, we thought about how this need existed in the first place.

We are just glad that God could grant us the chance to help so many people.

As the holiday season is upon us, we want to thank everyone who helped, supported or just offered up their prayers on our behalf. Merry CHristmas, happy hanukah and Happy New Year to you all. We will see you all again (here online or at the shop) next year.

Oh, and one final note, we still need volunteers. We had a high school student, Mark, help us out last week. And it was wonderful. Please follow Mark's example, and come give us a hand for an hour, a day, a few days or hours a week. Any time you can spare would be so helpful.

Again, thanks to one and all. Have a safe and wonderful holiday season.

URGENT CALL FOR ALL ANGELS (VOLUNTEERS)

Posted by Administrator on December 21, 2011 at 10:45 AM Comments comments (0)

We have had such a huge repsonse from those wishing to donate so we can buy as much food as possible for those in need.

But we have a problem. A good problem. But a problem, nonetheless.

We need volunteers to help in the shop. We need an hour, a day, whatever time you can spare to help us sort through the donations, put out the donations, clean up the shop, and a bunch of other things that need doing on a day to day basis.

Any time you can spare is really appreciated. This is a good cause and I would hate to see us stumble when there is so much need out there. Stop by (611 Broad St Milford, PA), call (570-288-8351) or send us a message on our Contact Page.

Thank you all how have helped out so far. You are all my Angels!

Grand Opening - Many Thanks

Posted by Administrator on December 14, 2011 at 1:25 PM Comments comments (0)

Our Grand Opening on December 12th was just wonderful! There were so many special "angels" who helped to make it such a blessed day. Many thanks to Colleen, Kathy, Cathy and Kathleen, Jerry and everyone who helped out by bringing in all the lovely donations. A special thank you to Rep. Brown who sent us a beautiful plaque for our shop. It was such a surprise.

Lauren spent most of the day in joyous tears, and was interviewed on Blue Ridge 13 and by the News Eagle.

Thanks to all who helped get us ready and stopped by with well wishes and shopped. All our "Angels" mean so much to us, because it means we can help more people in more ways.

We look forward to having a huge impact on those in our community, with your help.

For all those who have asked, we are open Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm.

Again, thanks to everyone who helped, donated, shopped or simply stopped by to say hello.

Have a blessed and amazing day!
